Lochyside RC Primary School

S.C.I.A.F. Cheque Presentation

We invited Mark Booker from SCIAF to come along to our school to hear about the Talented Enterprise Project which was carried out by the Primary 7 pupils.

Mark had visited our school earlier in the term to talk to us about the work that SCIAF does throughout the world.

He set a challenge for Primary 7 – to increase the £50.00 that he gave them by using their own talents.

Primary 7 organised a Christmas Fair, using the £50.00 to buy craft materials and baking ingredients.

The children used their own individual skills, and they involved all the other classes in the school. They wrote invitations and made posters to advertise the event in the community. They also invited parents, families and friends to help in whatever way they could.

The children were overwhelmed by the success of their Christmas Fair.

It was a fantastic social occasion for our school, the local community and our parish, and the support given to the children was tremendous.

We were absolutely delighted to raise an amazing total of £1350.00 (our target had been £300.00)!!

Mark accepted the cheque on behalf of SCIAF, and he praised the children for their excellent efforts.

The children talked to Mark about how they had planned the Christmas Fair, and they showed him photographs of the various stages of the project.

SCIAF will use the money to help people in other countries to develop their skills so as to become more self-sufficient, and to provide food and education for their families.

Our efforts have been recognised on the S.C.I.A.F Youth Website: follow the link below to have a look!
